How to assign Category for your items on the feed

We know that the more precise your targeting is the higher chance you get your customers to convert. Especially on Google Shopping Ads, it’s all about targeting and optimizing your product categories to match with customer search terms.

Therefore, we are excited to bring you our latest feature, which enables you to assign a Product Category to a specific product group.

We have 2 different categories for two different types of feeds: Google Product Category and Facebook Product Category. If you choose to create Google feed, you will be able to assign Google Product Category to your collection. On the other hand, if you choose to create Facebook feed, you can apply Facebook Product Category.

How to assign a Product Category to a collection

To start, go to Feed Center > Click on a feed > Choose Category Mapping tab > Press Add more mapping

After selecting a collection, you can choose an existing collection in your store and assign a Category that you find suits it the best. Then, press Save & Resync.

Within the app, the category is displayed as separate levels similar to how they are listed by Google or Facebook. You can search for the first category level using our Search bar.

You can also apply Product Category to all of your collections

Mapping Preview

After you completed mapping Product Category, you will want to know how the category is displayed on sales channels. No worry, Mapping Preview helps you to see all product information in real-time with just one click.

Simply click on Preview to see all product information displayed on the right side.

How to assign a Product Category to a specific product group

Besides mapping one collection to one Product Category, we allow you to set up rules to map Category to a specific product group of your choice. It is called Assign category using conditional rules.

For example: I have both men and women T-shirt in the same collection, however, I want to set different Category to each gender. This is how I will map my products.

- If product title contains the keyword "Men T-shirt", then will be assigned to the category of "clothing & accessories > clothing > men's clothing > t-shirts"
- If product title contains the keyword "Women T-shirt", they will be assigned to the category of "clothing & accessories > clothing > women's clothing > tops & t-shirts"
- Simply click on +Condition(s) to add a new condition.

You can set the rules to assign a category to a specific product when that product belongs in a collection and already has a category assigned. However, the product's category will stay the same, not being overriden by the product group rule.

How to assign a Product Category to All products

If all products have the same of one product type, you can use the All products mapping feature to map one Product category to all products

In the case of multiple overlapping conditions. The system will prioritize from top to bottom (Specific collection -> Conditional rule -> All products)

If you have any further question about the Category, don't hesitate to contact us via in-app live chat or email at support@socialhead.io
